How can I walk another’s path? My feet on the sand her toes crushed. My hands crushing air her fingers caressed. My ears caressing sounds her lips poured out. My body seeking her migrations. I explore this question in a solo interdisciplinary performance on the African diasporic journey of MFA Kera, singer and co-founder of the Berlin-based group Black Heritage. She made her way to Germany from her native Madagascar to Senegal, from France to the U.S., and back to Europe. As a scholar-performer I have investigated MFA Kera’s migrations through ethnographic and archival research. Now I also trace her journey and forge my own in a dialogical performance where my body moves through her homes, her songs, her words. As I encounter her routes, so I discover my roots.
