Whiting Tennis

Whiting Tennis was born in Hampton, Virginia, the second son of an Episcopalian Minister, raised in Buffalo, NY, and attended high school and college in the Northwest (BFA in painting, University of Washington). He lived in New York City from 1990 to 2004, where he made art, acquainted himself with New York artists and dealers and found representation with the Derek Eller Gallery. He has received the Pollock Krasner, Neddy, Arlene Schnitzer and the Joan Mitchell awards for painting and sculpture and has works in private and institutional collections across the country. He’s had solo museum shows at The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum, The Halley Ford Museum of Art, and The Museum of Northwest Art. He also writes, records and performs indie rock music as a solo artist and with a band.
