Ariel Cotton is a comic artist from New York who makes autobiographical work. She has been living in Berlin for the last year, creating graphic memoirs. During that time, multiple people have criticized her work for being self-involved. She gave this feedback some serious thought, and engaged in some questioning: what does it mean to make self-involved work? Is self-involvement a drawback in art? What is the difference between narcissism, self-involvement, and self-reflection? In her talk, Cotton will explore these questions, and address potential answers for them.
