Photographs can isolate things, and also reflect the isolation of things. Photographs can connect things, and also reflect the connectedness of things. When is connectedness a desirable property? When is isolation? The answers to these questions depend heavily on the viewer’s own presumptions and prejudices. My work explores the tension between independence and isolation, between connectedness and oppression, by examining the relationship of natural and human-made objects to each other. The work asks viewers to reconsider their own views on the extent to which they themselves are either supported by, or independent of, their fellow human beings.
