David Thomson

The subjects in David’s paintings are often found alone, occupying a generic interior space, suggestive of a cold and dystopian world outside. Within these classically rendered, realist portraits and still lifes, the figures can be seen engaged in deep contemplation or in propositions that seem to question or test their very existence. Each picture is quietly underpinned by the artist’s interest in religious painting and the renaissance, science-fiction, spirituality and existentialist thought. Whilst working under an evolving program of thematic conditions his works attempt to intimately probe the position of the human being in contemporary life; persistently exploring our humanness in relation to our internal thoughts and external environment.
