His work takes the form of albums, short films, opera, installations and live free improvisation using voice, computer or his self-made electronic instrument The Pineapple. Sound had always been be of interest —less as a musical end and more as an exploration of material, space, and experimentation — so he entered the highly regarded experimental electronic music program at Mills College where he earned an MFA and learned from such luminaries as Pauline Oliveros, Maggi Payne, John Bischoff, Chris Brown, James Fei and even jazz legend Roscoe Mitchell. Now, Sam has set about to combine image and sound, story and experimentation, emotion and texture through the use of cinematic language and expansive sound exploration. This is manifesting itself in several projects including Sound art, Trans-media opera, Feature film writing, Installation art, and Video art.
