I believe the gaze is unfolding understanding. I use photography, arrangements of text, and installation, to question the identity of places and things by illuminating the movement, transformation and temporal fluctuation of appearances and meanings.
My images are often referenced to public space, yet they are a transfiguration of it. I seek to question the predominant role of photography in crystalizing realities in the age of digital production and dissemination of street snapshots. By painting with the camera, I interrogate a common distinction between photography’s relation to reality, and the freedom to construct the image in painting. Via textual and visual imagery, I explore how the movement of eyes, body and comprehension, in a changing world, constitute fleeting realities that suspend linear readings and accepted representations. I wish to highlight the vitality of human intentionality in a world that increasingly favours life as programed automation.
