Synaesthesia | Patricia Chow

Synaesthesia | Patricia Chow

Synaesthesia or synesthesia is the phenomenon of perceiving something with one of the senses (for example, hearing) and simultaneously feeling it in another (for example, sight). Wassily Kandinsky famously dropped out of law school to study painting after attending a performance of Richard Wagner’s opera Lohengrin, where, he later said, “I saw all my colors in spirit, before my eyes. Wild, almost crazy lines were sketched in front of me.”
This exhibition proposes to explore sensory connections between music and painting, using my own painted musical interpretations as a starting point, and pairing them with the music that inspired them, so that visitors can form their own interpretations.
