My art practice is dominated by two overriding considerations: interdependency and change. I am inspired by the repeating patterns in nature. I would like to explore an urban environment very different to the bush and coastal environment where I live. The proposed project I would like to undertake in Berlin would focus on the accumulated layering over time of weathered surface marks and details found on buildings, billboard posters and footpaths where unexpected and random patterns are revealed. I would like to photograph and absorb the transience and energy of the ‘city scribbles’ that define an urban environment. I aim to translate these shapes, lines, colours and textures into a series of abstract paintings and mixed media drawings by building up paint layers mixed with gestural marks and scribbles. I would also like to be open to the challenge of exploring new media and techniques.
