My recent work begins by asking, ‘Is it possible to re-invent how we present and depict mortality so it is seen through a more positive lens, prompting us to live a little differently?’
The potential richness of our life can only truly be understood within the context of our mortality. The context of opposites helps, I think. The Vanitas painters knew this.
I have been trying to bring this idea of opposites to my new work, exploring increasing control and relinquishing control in the same image, possibly reflecting our lived experience of life and our influence over it.
