As an artist and art educator, I survive by looking for humor and absurdity in daily life. I have worked in schools where there seemed to be nothing to laugh at, and yet we found little moments of wonder and hilarity. In my artwork, I look at the relationships between humans and the world they create while the real world hurdles on. While previously I have heavily dealt with ideas of identity and self- concept, more recently I am interested in our need to create and give meaning to single objects as symbols. In terms of media, I like to use whatever suits my idea best. Drawing, printmaking, photos and stop motion animation have all been prevailing in my work lately. Often an idea in a print will translate better to an animation, or an animation will evolve into a photo series. In my work, the idea dictates the media.
